Palliative care is specialized care focused on providing relief from the symptoms of pain and stress of serious illnesses. During this time in a family member’s life, having someone there can be a huge help not only to the care recipient but to the family as well.

Palliative care can improve quality of life, making daily life more comfortable for patients. Communication from the patient’s team of doctors to the family and caregivers is crucial to providing the best possible care at every stage.

At Cornerstone Caregiving, our caregivers are dedicated to providing comprehensive home care that addresses the physical, mental, and spiritual needs of our clients as they embark on their palliative care journey. We believe caregivers are essential to palliative care!

Caregivers and Palliative Care Satisfaction

Seniors receiving palliative care from caregivers report higher satisfaction with care. This is because caregivers improve their quality of life and cut down on their levels of stress when dealing with the challenges that come with pain or disease management in home care. A caregiver is a welcome source of comfort because they are able to relieve the stress of everyday tasks and provide companionship during this difficult time.

Our caregivers provide practical home care to patients, including but not limited to:

  1. Providing food, water, and ice or whatever the patient is able to eat and drink
  2. Making sure the room is the correct temperature for ultimate comfort
  3. Providing soothing music or reading to them
  4. Making sure they stay clean and comfortable
  5. Communicating with healthcare providers and sharing new information that could improve the patient’s treatment

Our staff act as advocates for the patient, ensuring that their voice is heard and their preferences are respected during medical consultations. They can articulate the patient’s needs, concerns, and treatment goals to healthcare professionals, fostering a collaborative approach to care.

Emotional Support

Caregivers provide emotional support to both the patient and the family, helping alleviate anxiety, fear, and uncertainty surrounding their medical condition. By offering reassurance, empathy, and encouragement, caregivers create a supportive environment conducive to effective communication and decision-making.

Cornerstone also offers support to their caregivers. Mental health is so important, and working at a company that provides someone to talk to about the stressful events that happen on a day to day basis is crucial. Our goal is to make sure that our caregivers truly care for their patients. We also want them to have low stress levels. This will help them handle any challenges that may arise.

Key Takeaway

Don’t underestimate the positive impact of starting palliative care early. You can experience the benefits firsthand and navigate this journey alongside Cornerstone Caregiving. At Cornerstone Caregiving, we’re not just caregivers – we’re advocates, communicators, and pillars of support.
